Jessica Linden Selected for Buckeye Girls State!

Jessica Linden of Wellington, Ohio has been selected from the Junior Class of the Keystone High School and will be among the nearly 600 girls participating in the 78th annual session of the Buckeye Girls State at Bowling Green State University.  The session begins Saturday, June 9th, 2024 and concludes on Saturday June 15, 2024.

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 8 selected Jessica Linden from her questionnaire and interview response.  She has an active role in her community, extensive commitment to volunteering to help others, demonstrates a team commitment, actively pursues female leadership roles, excellent academic grade point average and is currently pursuing a career in the United States Navy.

The Girls State program has been featured on Apple TV+ in an highly awarded documentary highlighting the programs main objective:  to bring together young women to immerse them in the laboratory of democracy, citizenship, and government.  It is a fast paced program of mock government at the state, county and city levels.  The delegates will build a government from the ground up, form two "fictional" political parties, campaign for office, live in a residence hall which will be their designated county and the floor they live in- their city.  The delegates will file petitions for candidacy for a variety of offices -from governor to city council and participate in the election process.  After elections and inaugurations, they will put their government in action.

Buckeye Girls State is the name given to the Ohio's Girls State Program.  This program is held nationwide and is designed to educate young women in City, County and State Government and the delegates can learn more in one week than in an entire semester of high school.  The Ohio American Legion Auxiliary has been a proud Sponsor of Buckeye Girls State and the program offers two graduating delegates an opportunity to attend Girls Nation in Washington, DC .  The weeklong national program offers an inside experience on how our government works and a deeper appreciation of our veterans.  The graduating delegates also have an opportunity to apply for a variety of select scholarships.

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 8 congratulates Jessica on your selection and continued success!
