During the first month of school, the staff has been working to identify your child’s reading skills. A letter explaining your child’s screening results will be sent home in October for families with children in grades kindergarten through third. For families with a child in grades first, second or third, this letter will also explain if your child is at risk for dyslexia. If your child is found to be at risk for dyslexia, it does not mean that your child has dyslexia. However, the staff will provide intervention in reading to support your child’s progress towards attaining grade level reading and writing skills. Please know that all children are provided 90 minutes of reading instruction each day, along with differentiated instruction by the teacher as appropriate. We will also monitor your child’s progress closely and you will receive notification about your child’s progress. For families with a kindergartener, a letter will be sent home after winter screening identifying your child’s risk for dyslexia.
