On Monday of this week, we held a Professional Development (PD) day for our teachers. Many people ask, what is a professional development day? What do teachers do during this time? I would like to take this opportunity to address these questions. Professional development days for teachers ensure our staff is educated in many facets contributing to the success of our District. These days help us continue to offer students best teaching practices, engaging instruction, rigorous content, and training on the vast and constantly growing technologies that benefit teacher instruction and student learning. These days help us to prepare our students for success in their present grade level, in upper level grades, and in their post-high school careers.

At KHS on Monday, representatives from Perry Local Schools visited our High School staff to discuss Standards Based Learning, its rational, and its benefits.

At KES, teachers worked with the Response to Intervention (RTI) program to support struggling students by identifying learning obstacles and issues sooner rather than later. They also worked with the Making Middle Grades Work (MMGW) program and vertical planning in ELA and math.

At KMS, a multitude of classroom lessons and instructional strategies were analyzed, and working collaboratively, teachers discussed ways to make them better as well as determining best practices to share between departments and content areas.

In upcoming events, we are excited for our upcoming Strategic Plan Community Meeting on Thursday, March 5 at 6pm. Please plan to join us at the High School in Room 124 as we share our strategic plan accomplishments and discuss our ongoing and upcoming progress. We will cover the five target areas in our plan: facilities, whole child, community pride, technology, and personnel. We are very excited to report on our progress made thus far.

In athletic news, congratulations to our High School’s Wrestling Team for their outstanding performances this year, earning them the title of Conference Champions, finishing undefeated in conference dual meets at 8-0.

Lastly, we continue to seek substitute teachers for all three schools as well as substitute and full-time bus and van drivers and bus monitors. For substitute teacher positions, qualified applicants will hold a bachelor’s degree (in any field) and pass a FBI & BCI background check. Please contact the Educational Service Center at 440-324-5777 for application details.
Qualified applications for driver positions must be 21 years or older, have a clean driving record, and pass a FBI & BCI Background check. A CDL certification is preferred; however free training is also available. For the transportation positions, please apply in person or send in a resume to Keystone’s Board of Education Office, 580 Opportunity Way, LaGrange, Ohio.

Have a great weekend Keystone!
