Our cold and often unpredictable winter weather is upon us! As such, I would like to recommunicate our process for school closings.  As a plausible calamity day approaches, we communicate with our Transportation Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, and many of Lorain County’s Public School Superintendents.  As soon as the decision to cancel school or use the 2-hour delay has been made, the announcement is posted to our website, Twitter feed, Facebook page, and an all-call is sent to our parents.  Additionally, the closing information is sent to our local news stations. Please refer to our individual school’s website for the bell schedule for the 2-hour delay.  If you are not registered for the all-call, please call our Board of Education Office at 440-355-2424.

In this week’s strategic planning feature, I will highlight our Whole Child target area, with the focus on mental and physical wellness. We have implemented programs to help students understand and manage anxiety, encouraged brain breaks throughout the day, formed advocacy groups with supports for students facing hardships, for those who need additional assistance in developing self-esteem, and for gifted learners. We have also provided presentations for parents and community on mental health and are in the process of training additional members to be a part of our internal crisis team. Many other endeavors are underway, and I look forward to reporting on them in our full strategic plan update.
Have a great weekend Keystone!
