Kindergarten Enrollment 2026-27

Kindergarten Enrollment 2026-27

Dear Wildcat Families,

We wanted to share an important update regarding Kindergarten enrollment requirements in the State of Ohio, which will take effect beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.

What Changed in Ohio Law?

In December 2025, House Bill 114 was signed into law, changing how Kindergarten eligibility is determined across Ohio. Under this new law, all public school districts must follow a uniform age requirement based on the district’s first day of Kindergarten instruction.

Keystone’s Kindergarten Eligibility for 2026–2027

For the 2026–2027 school year, the first day of school for Keystone Kindergarten students will be Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

To enroll in Kindergarten at Keystone:

A child must be five (5) years old on or before September 8, 2026.

This requirement replaces Keystone’s previous August 1 cutoff date, which is no longer permitted under state law.

What This Means for Families

New Cutoff Date: The August 1 eligibility date previously used by Keystone is no longer in effect.

Expanded Eligibility: Children who turn five between August 2 and September 8, 2026, are now eligible to begin Kindergarten.

Required Enrollment: Children who turn six (6) on or before September 8, 2026, and who have not yet completed first grade, are required to be enrolled in school.
