Seeking Outdoor Classroom Donations

Keystone is a Title I elementary school in rural Lorain County, Ohio. According to U.S. News, 21.7% of the students are economically disadvantaged. The Keystone Local School District has seen substantial residential growth due to the development of farmland. We fear losing touch with our agricultural roots.

The 56' x 96 footprint of our Outdoor Classroom currently consists of a pavilion (built in 2018 by an Eagle Scout), newly installed concrete walk and pads for accessibility, a pergola and greenhouse. We would like to fully enclose this space with 8-foot fencing to protect the area as well as designate and increase vertical growing space. The outdoor classroom will be an engaging environment that has designated spaces for hands-on learning of various outdoor subjects. These subjects will include, but are not limited to; gardening, sustainability, water conservation, and weather. The main goal of our program is to expose our students to things they may not otherwise see in a safe, structured, and educational outdoor space. A second goal of our program is to engage the community in sharing the passion and knowledge they have with the next generation of learners. Finally, we are aiming to have a lasting impact on our students desire to be outside, which will impact their physical health and emotional wellness for their lifetime.
