Curriculum and Instruction

The office of curriculum and instruction oversees curriculum, instruction, assessment and accountability of the district’s educational programs. Current district teaching and learning initiatives include: the use of formative assessments to guide instruction, development of college level classes and Advanced Placement classes at the high school, creating connections across grade levels in elementary and middle school in science and social studies, redefining language arts instruction and the development of instructional strategies to help all students achieve high levels of learning through high quality teacher professional development.

All instruction in the district is aligned with the state academic content standards. Academic Content Standards describe the knowledge and skills that students should attain, often called the what of what students should know and be able to do. They indicate the ways of thinking, working, communicating, reasoning and investigating, and important ideas, concepts, issues, and knowledge essential to each subject.
